The end of January 2005

We have all witnessed the on-going efforts in dealing with the tsunami disaster, read the materials in the bulletin on the larger issue of life, watched and/or participated in the inauguration of President Bush and the Right to Life March, watched anxiously as the snow has begun to make its visitations, and the Iraqi elections are being held. Even with all of these events, we find ourselves dealing with the demands of every day life. Numerous stories could be shared by the many families that make up our parish. It can become a little overwhelming at times and isolating. Where can we find balance and a sense of hope and renewal? The answer remains the same - the Lord. A conscious reaching out to God in prayer, a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, the recitation of the Rosary, a short reading from the Scriptures - these are a few great ways to restore balance and to keep one’s sanity.

A PRAYER FOR UNDERSTANDING

Help me understand the needs of those
who struggle every day to stand tall against
the world’s pain.

Help me find a way to give hope to those
who have turned to alcohol or drugs
for survival.

Help me teach the children the lessons
of life that will shape their future,
body, mind and soul.

Help me feed the poor and elderly, too
proud to say that they have not eaten today.

Help me look inside myself and see
that all mankind is one. And, grant
me the strength to understand that
I can make a difference!
