6th Sunday in Ordinary Time February

2006
A leper came to Him (and kneeling down) begged Him and said, "If you wish, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, He stretched out His hand, touched him, and said to him, "I do will it. Be made clean."

The Blessing of Faith, Family &
Friends -
This first week of February, I will have traveled to West Point, New York to con-celebrate the funeral Mass of one of my best friend’s brothers. I will have gone in support of a loving and inspiring family. The funeral of James Wilson will be a celebration of Faith, of Hope, and of Love.
As an act of Faith, I will have gathered with others who believe that the Lord Jesus did conquer the power of sin and death. We will celebrate the reality of the Baptism. Having been reborn in the waters of Baptism, James began a new life as a member of the family of God. His mortal remains will be respectfully and reverently commended to our God—to the One who loaned him to us.
As an act of Hope, we will have witnessed his mortal remains draped with the pall. This outward sign of his Christian dignity will have been offered to God as a symbol of his response to God’s Grace. Presented in baptism in a spotless gown, our prayer is that he will have entered into the promise of heaven without sin. For renewed and strengthened by the Sacraments of life: Confession, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist—eternal life for him was not imaginary but a surety of Faith.
As an act of Love, a wife, a mother, brothers, a sister, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, nephews and nieces and dear friends will have traveled and altered their routine to unite as God’s family. We will say to God, “We love you!” We will prayerfully return to God, the source of Love, our loved one.
Jimmy was respected, admired and loved by many. All who will have been able to come and offer respects and condolences will have done so because their life was touched by Jimmy. Many other signs of affection and tributes will have come from others unable to attend. For those who came to know him and experienced the grace of his entering our lives, there will be a sense of separation but not of loss. He was a man who accepted the gifts given to him by God, said “yes” to the gift of Life and did his very best to love and allow himself to be loved. This he recognized through his relationship with God, his being of, for and with his family, uniting in the vocation and sacrament with his much loved wife, Susan and the blessing of life-long friends.
May he rest in peace!
In today’s second reading, St. Paul urges the Corinthians to
“do all for the glory of God.” If we follow that advise in everything we do, we cannot help but be good stewards!
