Are we still in the season of Lent?

The days are passing and before we realize it we will find ourselves preparing for another year. The news from overseas and at home coupled with the demands of our daily lives makes it easy to lose sight of the opportunity offered in Lent. Ash Wednesday, though only twenty days ago, almost seems like ancient history. How is your journey of faith progressing? Have you been faithful to the underlying decision made for this Lent? Are you still making time for prayer? Is there an attitude of fasting in your life? Is there a greater awareness of God’s poor? Only we as individuals can answer these questions. The Church continues to create avenues for each of us to employ in the short time remaining. Taking time to eliminate some of the unnecessary aspects of our lives is not a simple thing to do. Yet, we know that a tragedy or a crisis enables and even compels us to do so. What can be more important to any of us than our union with the Good Lord? Unfortunately, most of us can find someone, something or some place seemingly more important at any given moment. Thus, the need for the parish community to keep us steadfast to the discipline of Lent. Be mindful of praying for one another.

When Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for a drink of water, He opened the door for a life-changing relationship with Him. Scripture says her testimony drew many others to Him as well. We, too, must be ready to respond whenever and wherever the Lord speaks to us and be prepared for it to change our lives!
