If you would like to schedule a Mass for a specific date/intention, please contact Susan Angelini at the parish office. Mass intentions are filled on a first come/first serve basis. Customary offerings are as follows: Mass – $10; flowers: main church – $50, chapel – $35; Sacristy candle – $10/week; tree memorial including a plaque – $500.

Today’s second reading reminds us that we are the adopted sons and daughters the heirs, of God. We are good stewards of our inheritance when we share our faith and fulfill Our Lord’s command to “go….and make disciples of all the nations.”

Eucharistic Adoration/Our Lady’s Chapel

First Friday 9:00 a.m. to noon
Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to midnight
Wednesday 5:00 a.m. to midnight
Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Anyone may attend Eucharistic Adoration and spend time worshiping Jesus. Adorers are welcome anytime during the above hours for as long as they are able to stay. We are trying to have adorers commit to a certain time period (even if under 1 hour) on a regular basis so that all hours are covered with at least two adorers. If you would be willing to make this commitment, please contact Joan Yates at (301) 283-2206.

OUTSIDE OF PARISH EVENTS

Corpus Christi Mass and Procession

In this Year of the Eucharist, please join St. Mary of the Assumption Parish community for its annual Corpus Christi Mass and Procession on Sunday, May 29th. Mass begins at 11:30 a.m. followed immediately by the Sacred Procession. The procession will be followed by a potluck meal. Extra parking will be available across the street from the church. Vocation Retreats for Young Men:

The Archdiocese is sponsoring two vocation retreats for young men this summer. The theme is “The Eucharist:
Gettin’ Tight with Christ.”

June 10-11th for young men entering 7th–9th grades;
cost $30.
June 17-19th for young men entering 10th grade–freshman year of college; cost $40.

AIDS Orphans Around the World Exhibit

The Children Left Behind: AIDS Orphans Around the World, a new exhibit at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center, will be open till June 12th. Sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, the exhibit features creative works and stories that capture life through the eyes of orphans and other children left vulnerable by HIV/AIDS from Uganda, South Africa, India, Cambodia and Guatemala. The museums are open Tuesday-Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday: noon to 5:00 p.m., 3900 Harewood Road, N.E., Washington, D.C. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Book Discussion Group meets every Sunday morning 10:45–11:45 a.m. in the faculty lounge or behind the school depending on the weather. Come and join in for good fellowship, donuts and hot drinks!

How to Practice Family Planning (instead of artificial birth control) taught by Heather Keimig, MSN. Classes will be held Sunday afternoons: May 22nd, and June 12th from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Keimig’s house in Accokeek. Catholics Coming Home is an apostolate for those considering returning to their Catholic faith, needing help with an annulment, a divorce situation, or just wanting to talk about their struggles with the Church. We will meet on Monday evenings 7:30–9:00 p.m. (except holidays) in the school library. Participants are welcome at any session. Please contact Bill Keimig at (301) 292-0527 if you have questions.

PARISH NEWS

Bulletin articles must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Friday for publication two weekends later. Bulletin inserts must be in the parish office on the Tuesday prior to the weekend that the insert will be used. Inserts and articles for the bulletin must be approved by the pastor.


SODALITY


Sodality is a group of Catholic women willing to work together in service of Christ’s Church and the world in every area of life: family, work, professional, civil and ecclesial.
