Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ
June 18, 2006
While they were eating, He took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is My body." Then He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, "This is My blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many."

Father’s Day
I will have called my Dad and will have spoken to him of my prayers for him. We will have had our customary conversion. How grateful am I that I will see him later this summer when we attend the 60th Anniversary of his brother, Lawrence and sister-in-law, Agnes!
Previously, I have shared with you my gratitude for both of my parents and their “yes” to life, faith and love. I am humbled by my father’s faith and charity. He continues to help me and inspire me in my journey to the Lord. Dad will be 85 years old this summer. I will wish him the usual Happy Birthday. Yet, the greatest manner in which I believe we children can honor our fathers is to never stain or dishonor the legacy they have given us. May the good Lord forgive their weaknesses and reward them with the hope of our Faith—the promise of Heaven.†
The focus of today’s feast is the total self-giving of Jesus. The bishops’ stewardship pastoral reminds us that “the glory and the boast of Christian stewards lie in mirroring, however poorly, the stewardship of Jesus Christ, who gave and still gives all he has and is, in order to be faithful to God’s will and carry through to completion his redemptive stewardship of human beings and their world.”

Mr. Patrick Hanus, who has for the last three years served as principal of our elementary school will be leaving us this summer. He and his family have contributed not only to the school community but to the life of our parish. He came to us from New Mexico at a time when we were undergoing tremendous changes in our parish school. He is leaving behind him a legacy of stability, professionalism and most importantly, a clear Catholic identity. He plans on pursuing further education and will share his gifts outside of the educational world. As pastor, I can only say, “well done” and may the Lord bless you and your family in all your future endeavors!
Replacing Mr. Hanus was not an easy task. Yet, with the assistance of an excellent Search Committee we selected Mrs. Darcy Tomko as the next principal of our school. She come to us from within the Archdiocese and has known Mr. Hanus professionally. The transition should be a smooth one and make it convenient to build on the rich legacy put in place by Mr. Hanus. Mrs. Tomko is married and has two children. I know that you will welcome her and extend to her the customary hospitality of Saint Mary’s.
May the good Lord continue to bless the efforts to educate our children in your home and in our parish.
Apply now! We are currently taking applications for the 2006-2007 school year. Applicants will be tested to determine our ability to meet their needs. Please call Cathy Wall at (301) 292-2522 to schedule an appointment, a private tour, and testing for your child.
