This past Friday the Church reflected on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast brings us back to the moment when our Lord’s Heart was pierced on Good Friday. From His open heart came water and blood, an image closely connected to the Feast of Divine Mercy. The words associated with devotions to the Sacred Heart—“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy burdened…” are very familiar. Throughout our journey in life, the word “heart” is mentioned medically, emotionally and spiritually. Let us turn with love to the Lord and His Sacred Heart to be strengthened in our discipleship.†

St. Paul reminds us in the second reading that Christ died “so that those who live might live no longer for themselves.” What we give to and do for others, we give to and do for Jesus!

Prayer for Vocations
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of priesthood and religious life. We beseech your Holy Spirit to inspire men and women in the Archdiocese of Washington to answer the call to the priesthood and religious life. Give them the courage to embrace their vocation, the faith and zeal to follow you with joy, and the perseverance to remain loyal friends of your Son. Please protect and strengthen all priests, deacons, and religious brothers and sisters, especially those in the Archdiocese of Washington. Help all Christians to become better disciples of Jesus, and when our earthly pilgrimage is complete, bring us to the joy of your Kingdom. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
