26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
September  25, 2005

Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him."

The Intercession of Mary:
September 2005 will be remembered in the lives of many fellow citizens as the time frame when their lives were radically altered. Even with all the goodwill and the efforts being made to rebuild and establish some normalcy, the sense of bewilderment is still evident. Where can any of us turn? Thanks to our Faith, we have a powerful intercessor in Mary. October is traditionally the month to remember Mary and renew our devotion to praying the Rosary. I am mindful of what Father Maggs said to us during the parish mission this past spring regarding turning to Mary as one of God’s more permanent legacies. As we bring our personal pleas to her, she accepts them and places them before the Lord Jesus. She merely states the need and the request as she did at Cana so long ago. Then she reminds us to accept the Grace of the Lord by doing whatever He tells us to do. Let us take this new month to heart and in our reflection on the mysteries of the Rosary be open to the promised graces of the Lord.

The first son in today’s Gospel said he would do his father’s bidding, but did not. The second son balked at first, but then repented and did as he was asked. What service is God calling me to do? Which son am I more like?

Banns of Marriage are announced for the third time for Joseph Scott Parker of St. Mary’s Church and Jamie Lee Keller.
