"Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin. He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?" They replied, "Caesar's." At that he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."

Good stewards must not argue about who is the most important. Today’s Gospel says clearly that those who aspire to greatness must humbly serve the needs of all. Even Jesus came not to be served, but to serve.
Next weekend there will be a second collection to benefit the Propagation of the Faith. Please be generous. Thank you!
The Blessing of Friendship

One of the rituals of my life is an annual vacation with three very dear priest friends. Though we were in the seminary together, they were ahead of me by two years. Over the years, we have celebrated each five year increment of ordination with something special. Since Father Lang, Father Roberts and Monsignor Wilson are celebrating their 30th anniversary, we will be on a pilgrimage in honor of Our Lady of the Seas. For their 25th, the theme was Our Lady of France. Underlying the deep friendship which was brought about through our vocations to the priesthood, it is a fact that the three are wonderful people! Our friendship enables us to be ourselves. We accept and challenge each other in a non-judgmental manner. We have shared many joys and sorrows over the last 32 years, and although physically separated because of the two separate dioceses, the knowledge and experience of sincere friendship has bound us into a profound sense of thanksgiving to God.

MUSIC
MINISTRY
Music Director: Dr. Mickey Terry
(202) 581-6304
|
| If you like to sing, and have thought about joining the choir, but feel that your schedule is too hectic to fit it in—you may find that it is not as difficult as you might have thought. We would love to have you sing with us! Please contact Dr. Terry to join the choir.
I
have been a member of St. Mary’s Parish for 16 years and a member of the Traditional Choir for 9 years. Although I would sing out loudly and proudly in the pew during Mass, I did not intend to join a choir until the Holy Spirit gave me a nudge. One day, I stopped and started talking to some of the choir members as they were trying to recruit new members. I love singing; and singing has always been an integral part of our Eucharistic worship, so why not make a formal commitment to our Parish and add my voice to the music ministry. It has been a joyful experience. We have a wonderful Music Director who graciously teaches us a myriad of hymns, anthems, and choruses across the wide spectrum of church music. We’re not professionals and most of us don’t “read” music. But we learn every time we get together, and we give our efforts back to God and you with our voices. Please think about joining either the Contemporary or the Traditional Choir. We would love to swell our ranks, especially with male voices.
