The month of November...
Click Father David Brault for bigger view
November is filled with memories. My thoughts are of my mother who would have turned 86 this year had she lived. Veteran’s Day reminds me of schoolmates who died in Vietnam, as well as members of my family who served in the military over the years. There is the anticipation that surrounds the preparations for Thanksgiving. Yet, the month is balanced by the Feast of All Saints which gives me Hope not only for myself but for all my loved ones. The commemoration of All Souls reminds me that I can still say, “I Love You” in prayer for all those persons who have been part of my journey of life so far. I am grateful for the blessing of my Faith. The weather will change during this month as fall settles in for another seven weeks. With the seasonal changes the desire for God should become stronger in us.

Like the sensible bridesmaids in today’s parable, good stewards make sure that they, and whatever gifts are theirs to share, are ready to serve when the Master calls.

MUSIC MINISTRY
Music Director: Dr. Mickey Terry
(202) 581-6304

If you like to sing, and have thought about joining the choir, but feel that your schedule is too hectic to fit it in—you may find that it is not as difficult as you might have thought. We would love to have you sing with us! Please contact Dr. Terry to join the choir.

God has given me the gift of music ministry ever since I was thirteen years old when I was asked to be organist and choir director at St. Augustine’s Church in Austin, PA. I believe in using the gifts which God gives me for the benefit of others. But most important is praying with praise, adoration, and thanksgiving to our Triune God, and with music one can express prayers in heartfelt emotion. To paraphrase St. Augustine, "Singing is praying twice."

Shortly after moving to Fort Washington in 1990, we were invited to attend St. Mary’s in Piscataway by a good neighbor. We were warmly welcomed by many of the parishioners. I was inspired by the St. Mary’s choir and I was eager to join them. It had been a couple of years since I had participated in the choir at Old St. Mary’s on “H” Street. What a wonderful opportunity to worship God in song or at least make a joyful sound unto the Lord. The St. Mary’s choir trip to Rome in 1994 was very memorable. We sang two Masses at St. Peter’s Basilica: one at the closing of the Synod of Bishops with Pope John Paul II as the principal celebrant, and the other Mass was later that evening with Cardinal Hickey as the celebrant. We also gave a concert at St. Ignatius Church in downtown Rome and experienced the excellent acoustics in that Gothic church. God has given our choir very talented music directors over the years, and Dr. Terry is one of the most talented.

Joining St. Mary’s choir is a loving and spiritual experience which is open to all who enjoy singing and praising God.
